The House's new wine and beer cellars: A blend of modernity and tradition

When the House was acquired in 2019 and the basement spaces were redesigned, the current owner set out to create two areas dedicated to showcasing and optimally preserving products emblematic of the Belgian art de vivre: specialty beers, objects of national pride and international renown, and Belgian wines, today more promising than ever.
Faithful to the building’s tradition as both a wine house and a brasserie, this project follows in the footsteps of the original wine cellars created by the VandenPerre family at the end of the 19th century. These cellars have now been fully restored and returned to their original materials.
A genuine architectural feat when they were excavated beneath the house’s garden in 1880, they also stand as a remarkable testament to the industrial architecture of the period. The cast-iron columns supporting the vaulted brick ceilings still bear the stamp of the Ixelles foundries of the time.
The two new spaces, harmoniously integrated into the original ensemble, thus extend the existing cellars. Their purpose is twofold: to ensure optimal conservation of the products, and to offer spaces for tasting and conviviality, particularly around the wines of Liège, for which we act as wine merchants.

We are also very proud to offer, by the glass or by the bottle, the now-renowned Insoumise, a sparkling white wine from Liège that was awarded the gold medal in its category at the Brussels International Wine Competition in 2025.
Naturally, the cellars are climate-controlled to guarantee ideal storage conditions, both for wines and for the two abbey beers highlighted in our brasserie: Orval and Westvleteren 12, voted the world’s best beer in 2005 and 2011. We currently offer beers from the 2021 vintage on our menu.
These new spaces therefore fully align with the project of celebrating the House’s architectural and gastronomic heritage.
And a word to enthusiasts: the wine cellar will be fully accessible from the start of the new season in September. As for the beer cellar and the treasures it holds… the key will remain safely in the pocket of our barman, who, of course, will be delighted to serve them to you!
